NORAD, Google or your own Father Christmas story?
A Santa tracker is fun to look at together, but it can’t tell you when he’ll reach your house.
NORAD’s map follows Father Christmas around the world, but NORAD says it cannot predict when he will reach one home. Google’s Santa Tracker offers its own games and journey. Both can be a lovely shared look at places far away; their seasonal features are worth checking on the day.
Keep the house plan separate
If you need time to finish Christmas dinner or settle children to bed, a world map cannot set that pace for you. Prepare a note in your own words instead: “He’s still on his way; we’ll look again after supper.” The last clue can wait until the adults are ready.
- Pick a short window for map time.
- Keep bedtime independent of a moving dot.
- Tell your child the map shows the wider journey, not the time he’ll arrive at your door.
A handwritten postcard works as a family story too. The useful question is what the child wants: geography, a game or reassurance about tonight.
