Something green, something soft: a Christmas hunt at home.
A short Christmas hunt at home can start with things already in the room. Choose a few safe objects and make clear whether children should bring them or simply point.
Give one clue
Ask for one or two qualities: something green, something soft or something that sparkles. Choose objects your child can reach from the floor. If an ornament is fragile or fixed to the tree, ask them to show you where it is rather than take it down.
Accept different finds
Follow your child’s finds and accept a reasonable answer. A green cushion can be just as good as the decoration you expected. For several children, search together or let each choose one quality; the game does not need a winner.
Swap roles and put things back
When you are ready to finish, look at the finds together and return any moved objects.
For another round, swap roles and let your child set the clue. Agree that you are searching in this room and leaving drawers closed. To finish, put any collected objects back together. That gives the game a clear ending and leaves the room ready for the next part of the day.
