Christmas away from home: how will Santa find us?
A hotel, a relative’s house or a road trip changes the address. Decide what travels with you and what can wait at home.
Before packing, decide where the gifts will physically be on Christmas morning. Santa’s route is the easy part of the story; transporting a large wrapped box through an airport is harder. Choose one portable surprise for the travel day and leave bulky gifts for home if that is easier.
Decide what happens where
At a relative’s house, ask where stockings can go and whether anyone else is using the same room. At a hotel, avoid promising that Santa will enter a locked guest room. You can leave a small note beside the stocking and save larger gifts for home.
- Check luggage space before buying or wrapping the travel gift.
- Keep the gift out of shared bags your child may unpack.
- Agree with hosts who will set things out and when.
“Santa knows we’re staying with Aunt Lee this year. We’ll have a little surprise here, and our home presents will wait until we’re back.” The plan should work even if travel runs late.
