Young children and a Christmas map: one letter can be enough.
Your child sits on your lap, points at the little star and wants to open the envelope. You read two sentences, then they’re off to play again. That can be your whole visit to the Christmas map.
Read aloud and follow what catches their eye
Look at the map together. Trace the route with a finger and read one message. If your child is more interested in the river or the Christmas tree, stay there for a moment. Another envelope can wait.
Use familiar things in your messages: a snack, a favourite teddy or turning on the lights before dinner. “After your walk” connects to something happening at home without a long explanation of hours and minutes.
- Choose one character or symbol and keep it consistent through the day.
- Give each message just one idea. Read it aloud together.
- Let your child answer by pointing, waving or choosing an emoji.
One envelope, three small steps
